Our civilization is facinga metacrisis: economic, environmental, political, existential, spiritual. Our legacy systems, propped upby colonialism, greed, and economic imbalance, exist in a prolonged state of atrophy, disconnected from the regenerative flow of nature.
The problems are deeply rooted and systemic. It often feels hopeless. What can we as Individuals do to heal the world?
Everyone has a different role, a different purpose. Some people are here to challenge the status quo and tear down old structures. Some people are here to help heal trauma. Some people are here to build more sustainable supply chains. Some people are here to make music that guides us to a higher vibration. Some people are here to transmute pain into laughter.
Everything that exists, from scientific discoveries to successful business to social structures, began as a tiny seed in the imagination. Before we can build something, it must first be planned, and before it can be planned, it must be imagined. Creativity has an essential social utility. Art is not a plan. Art is a vision. Visions always precede plans. Imagination precedes discovery.
“Artists to my mind are the real architects of change, and not the political legislators who implement change after the fact.” – William Burroughs
Myths are the bedrock of civilization, the wellspring from which our laws, values, and culture flow. Artists are the magicians and mythmakers who plant the seeds of new realities in the collective consciousness. As Henry Miller once said, “The future always has and always will belong to the poet.”
This is a call to creators – we need a new myth, a cultural meme, a new vision.
Introducing a special podcast lecture called The New Renaissance in which I look at the state of the world through a historical lens of art and mythology. This is an educational and inspirational talk designed to empower your creativity through an understanding of history and the transformational power of art and myth.
